Precision Miniature Motion Control: L16 Linear Actuators

The L16 series of mini linear actuators is the big brother of the L12 series. It is perfectly suited to applications with tight space and weight restrictions that require more force. It's relatively small size and impressive strength make the L16 a popular choice in industries such as robotics, aerospace, medical devices as well as a wide range of DIY home and automotive applications.

L16 micro linear actuators feature an axial design that utilizes a powerful PMDC motor and a rectangular cross section for increased strength. But by far the most attractive feature of this actuator is the broad spectrum of configurations available. Actuonix Motion Devices L16 series is available in three stroke lengths: 30mm (-S only), 50mm 100mm or 140mm along with three force/speed combinations of 35:1, 63:1 or 150:1.

No matter your application needs, L16 series micro linear actuators from Actuonix will deliver exceptional, compact performance. Their design offers strength and efficiency for engineers and designers looking for precise motion control in space-constrained environments. Browse our entire selection of products by type, or use the actuator selector tool today.

Explore Our L16 Configurations

Our L16 line of actuators is available in a variety of configurations to suit the requirements of your design.

Customers can select from four distinct stroke lengths: 30mm (1.2 inches), 50mm (2 inches), 100mm (3.9 inches) and 140mm (5.5 inches). This variety ensures that our off the shelf L16 linear actuators can meet the requirements of most projects. In addition to stroke length, L12 actuators are available in three force and speed combinations, featuring 35:1, 63:1 or 150:1 gearing. This flexibility allows for accurate control over the motion and force, making sure that the L16 series micro linear actuators are easy to integrate into a variety of products and applications.

l16 linear actuator

L16 series actuators are available with three different control options:

1. L16-R Series

The R-Series L16 linear actuator interface adopts a standard hobby-grade, remote-control digital servo mechanism (CMOS logic). Additionally, it seamlessly integrates with most RC receivers, offering plug-and-play compatibility. Moreover, these units are fully operational with Arduino, utilizing the Arduino servo library for control. The R-Series is exclusively designed for 6v operation.

2. L16-S Series

Each model in our S-Series L16 linear actuators is equipped with end-limit switches. These switches automatically shut off the unit if it reaches its maximum extension or retraction. Operating these units is straightforward: simply switch the polarity on the actuator's two leads. They are compatible with various control methods, including a DPDT switch, relay or brushed DC motor controller. The S-Series is also available in 6v and 12v models.

3. L16-P Series

P-Series L16 linear actuators are designed without an integrated controller. However, they provide an analog position feedback signal with an external controller. These actuators are ideally paired with our Linear Actuator Control Board (LAC), enabling control through various methods, including USB (using our Configuration Utility Software), 0-5V, 4-20mA, RC Servo or PWM. The LAC also provides on-board options for adjusting speed, sensitivity, stroke limits and stall protection features. The P-Series comes in 6v and 12v models.

Frequently Asked Questions: L16 Series Micro Linear Actuators

If you have questions or would like to learn more about L16 series micro linear actuators, check out the answers to our most frequently asked questions below.

What is the difference between L12 and L16 actuators?

L16 actuators are slightly larger than L12 models. They feature a larger motor and gearbox and are capable of higher forces (up to 40lbs).

How Do I Choose the Right L16 Linear Actuator for My Project?

Selecting the right L16 linear actuator involves considering your application's stroke length, force, voltage, and control requirements. We have developed a tool to help you with this. Our actuator selector tool will narrow down your options based on your criteria.

How Long Will My L16 Linear Actuator Last?

The lifespan of your actuator will depend on a variety of factors including load, input voltage, side-load, duty cycle and more. We encourage our customers to do their own testing to evaluate the lifespan of their particular application.

Why are there so many other actuators that look like the L16?

The L16 was designed in the late 2000s by our in-house engineering team. We have been producing and selling it ever since, making iterative improvements on our design. At some point, the design of our L16 actuator was copied by a competitor. Since the, we have seen a few variants of this fake actuator for sale across the web, bearing different brand names. When you choose to buy an Actuonix L16 actuator, you're investing in a quality product that has been on the market for well over a decade.
