Long Life and High Precision: S20 Linear Actuators

The S20 is a rod-style actuator that is built off of our popular L12 platform. Rather than using a DC motor and gearbox, this actuator consists of a NEMA 8 stepper motor mounted directly to the actuator shaft. The S20 offers high-precision positioning in a very compact package that is ideal for mounting in tight spaces. Being a stepper motor actuator, it also features a higher duty cycle than our other models and you can expect a longer service life.

No matter your application or industry, S20 series micro stepper actuators from Actuonix will deliver exceptional, compact performance and long lifespan. Their design offers precision and reliability to engineers and designers looking for precise motion control in space-constrained environments. Browse our entire selection of products by type, or use the actuator selector tool today.

Available In Several Stroke Lengths

Our S20 line of actuators is available in several stroke lengths to suit the requirements of your design.

The S20 is available in four different stroke lengths: 15mm (0.59"), 30mm (1.18"), 50mm (1.97") and 100mm (3.93") to ensure that we offer a stepper actuator solution that will work with your design. This variety helps to ensure that we have an off the shelf stepper actuator that can be integrated into your design.

S20 actuator

S20 series actuators require a stepper motor driver for operation.

If you haven't decided how to drive your S20 actuator, we recommend the Tic T825 stepper motor controller from Pololu. The Pololu Tic family of stepper motor controllers makes it easy to add basic control of a bipolar stepper motor to a variety of projects. These versatile, general-purpose modules support six different control interfaces USB for direct connection to a computer, TTL serial and IC for use with a microcontroller, RC hobby servo pulses for use in an RC system, analog voltages for use with a potentiometer or analog joystick, and quadrature encoder for use with a rotary encoder dial.

Frequently Asked Questions: S20 Series Micro Linear Actuators

If you have questions or would like to learn more about S20 series micro linear actuators, check out the answers to our most frequently asked questions below.

What are the main advantages of stepper actuators?

The main advantages of stepper actuators are long life, high-precision movement and higher rated duty cycle.

What Control Methods Are Available For S20 Actuators?

Stepper motor linear actuators are driven from an external board that contains different control methods, including PWM, analog voltage, and serial communication protocols. The choice of control method will depend on the specific application requirements, as each method has its advantages and disadvantages.

None Of These Models Meet My Design Criteria, Do You Make Custom Actuators?

Our team can work with your specifications to design a custom linear actuator to fit your project and your budget. We can do anything you need, from a custom rod tip to an entirely new design. Minimum order quantities apply.

Do You Have Other Stepper Models?

Yes! We recently released our P8 Stepper Actuator. It's more compact than the S20. If space is a major consideration, you might want to check out the P8 stepper as well.
